Adoption Reunion Search

Important Information for All

1. No matter where the birth took place,  you are likely to succeed with the help of an adoption search and support group, such as one of our affiliates.

2. While Registries do produce results, and you should register with ISRR (Soundex), the odds of succeeding by placing your information in a registry or bulletin board are very much against you.
Any registry  that you have to pay for is probably going to rip you off because there will not be the hundreds of thousands of names necessary for a registry to have any chance at all of working.  The answer to this is Active Searching Pays Off.  Most people find  who they are looking for with the help of a group.

3. Reunions do NOT fix anything.  They are wonderful, but a reunion is just the beginning of a new way of life and it requires a lot of work to have a successful relationship and have beneficial changes take place.  Someone contemplating a search should try to get in touch with the feelings they have about the person they are seeking, and get in touch with what they want from the person sought and what they want the reunion to do for them.

4. It is very adviseable to go to support group meetings (if possible) for at least six months before your reunion.  This is minimum preparation for one of the most important events in anyone's life.

5.  The search has responsibilities towards the person they are seeking.   Sensitivity, Caring and  Empathy must rule.

6.  Click on Reunion Guidelines on this site for further info.

7.  Please read as much adoption related literature as you can.

8.  Please try to do your own search as much as possible.

9.  Please don't do someone a favor by doing their search as a gift for them.  It may backfire and many people can bet hurt.

10. If you have questions about these guidelines, please email us with your concerns.
