Adoption Crossroads is a
Member of the Yorkville Civic Council,
Human Services Council of
New York City and the NY State Task Force on Adoption.
Adoption Crossroads is a part of the largest search and support
network in the world
for Adoptees and Parents who lost children to
adoption, and proud
to be entering our
twentieth year of helping those who want to search.
When you register with us, you will be entered into our
Computerized Reunion Registry
for a possible match with the person you
are seeking. You will be cross-indexed with thousands
of people
who are looking for each other.
Upon registering with us, you will also be sent a meeting
schedule for
our
chapters outside New York City.
Thousands of adoptees and natural parents have been reunited through our organization.
For the record: Searching IS Legal and Healthy...Searching is NOT immoral!
Adoption Crossroads has been featured in the New York Daily News and
on
"CNN News",
"Geraldo", "Sally Jesse Raphael", "Joan Rivers", "Montel
Williams",
"48 Hours", "Best Talk",
WABC, WCBS and WNBC TV News, with over 40
Radio
and TV appearances in 1997 alone.
Everyone is encouraged to come to our rap groups for search help
and
moral
support, and receive personal help over the phone.
We act as your personal guide throughout the search process and you
are
in complete control
of how far you go; just a little information such
as
medical records, or all the way to a reunion.
We are affiliated with over 475 organizations around the world..
We hope you join us in your quest for knowledge and the truth.
Good Luck and we hope to see you soon.
Very truly yours,
ADOPTION CROSSROADS

Please note that registries do not take the place of active
searching.
The odds are very much against any individual person having
a reunion through any registry.
Active Searching Pays Off.
The Smart Way to Search...
Adoption Crossroads is a non-profit,
self-help, search & support
organization. You are welcome to join us whether
you are an Adoptee, a
Parent who lost a
child to adoption, or Adoptive Parent,
or someone who cares about
adoption. Whatever your reason for joining us,
participating in our
meetings will help
you to better understand your adoption experience.
Adoption Crossroads Services:
Search Help
Adoption Crossroads offers search help at all meetings and on the phone
in
between meetings
for members who want to locate natural family members.
Volunteers
trained in search
techniques act as advisors, pointing out ways in
which
to build upon information
you may already have, and guide you as your
search
progresses.
Soft Shoulders
Adoption Crossroads has volunteers who you can call when you simply
want
someone to talk to.
Referrals
Adoption Crossroads can
introduce
you to the adoption "network" providing referrals
to genealogical
services,
individual & group therapists, social service agencies, attorneys
and over 475 Search and Support groups in the United States,
Canada,
and
abroad.
Education
Aside from search and support, the other goals of Adoption Crossroads
are
to educate all those whose lives are affected by adoption and thereby
protect
them from ignorance and inappropriate and unnecessary fear and
paranoia,
and
from unwitting manipulation by others. Adoption professionals,
mental
health
professionals and legislators need to know the psychological
issues
faced by
those involved in adoption, and what they can do to stop
adoption
and promote family preservation.
Adoptees, Parents who lost
children
to adoption and Adoptive Parents need
to know that their feelings
questions and confusions are natural and OK;
that they are entitled
to search, that it is not illegal or immoral to search,
and if they
choose to do so, how to do that, and how that is likely to affect them,
and both sets of families,
and whether or not they choose to search, guidance is available.
We at
Adoption
Crossroads draw upon our own experiences and the expertise
of those who
understand
the basic principles of relationships and can help us
extrapolate from
those
principles and fit them to our own needs.
These are the broad concerns
of
Adoption Crossroads, concerns that engage us
and require our most
persistent
and creative efforts. We invite you to join
and participate in bringing
adoption
out of the dark and into the light.
Most things flourish better in
the
light.
Adoption Crossroads wonders ...
whether you will
join us in our search for understanding.
