1. NYPAS Comment:
Adoption Crossroads meets the NYPAS Standards for Charitable Solicitations.

2. Background and Activities:
Adoption Crossroads was incorporated in 1986 as Adoption Circle and changed to its current name in 1990. Its purpose is to unite people who have been separated by adoption and to educate the public about adoption-related issues. Its services include: Reunion Registry, Search Help, Weekly Meetings, Rap Groups, Referrals, Soft Shoulders, Education, Group Therapy. Adoption Library, Psychotherapy, and a quarterly newsletter.

In 1998, the organization received over 18,000 phone calls from the US, Australia, Belgium, Canada, England, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, Puerto Rico and Switzerland. All those whose searches were not in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Vermont were referred to one of the 371 groups in Adoption Crossroads' referral network. The organization also received over 1,500 inquiries by mail. Adoption Crossroads helped reunite over 130 families in Manhattan alone. The Computer Registry has grown to over 5600 entries.

Adoption Crossroads has affiliated chapters throughout New York in Albany, Buffalo and Congers. There are also chapters in Paramus, NJ and Concord, VT. The organization is a member of the Human Services Council of New York City, The Yorkville Civic Association, The New York State Citizens Coalition for Children, The American Adoption Congress, and the Council for Equal Rights in Adoption.

3. Fundraising and Tar Status:
Adoption Crossroads is a membership organization and does not conduct any fundraising activities. Members are charged a fee for service.

Adoption Crossroads is tax-exempt under section 50l (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions are tax- deductible to the extent provided by law.
